Hand Dyed Yarn in Winter Colors

This is Winter Sunset, it may sound like a strange name for shades of blue and mauve. When the snow is on the ground and the trees are bare, everything has a blue/black color to it and this is what our winter sunsets often show.

This is Winterberry, we have some really old, quite crooked trees along one bank of the barnyard. I think they were originally bushes but are old enough to be 12-15 feet high. No one has been able to identify the plant. They have berries the birds feed on in late winter. The birds don't bother with them earlier so by the time they do eat them, there are streaks of purple and black on the reddish orange berries.

Both colors are very lovely! I like the Winterberry in particular. However if I was going to knit a scarf for myself I would go with the Winter Sunset since I look better in blues and purples than I do in reds.

Thanks for the comment. I seem to go in streaks with my colors. I intended on doing mostly purples in the dyes but that red just kept calling me. I think I have 4 different red colorways done right now.

Hi Barbara,

I was sitting at the Barnes and Noble in Portage today reading "The Knitters Guide to Wool" when I came across the section on processing wool after shearing. I was surprised to read a name I was already familiar with: Marr Haven!

I'm very happy to see you have a blog, and I'm sure I'll be following along.
